The transition from C++ to QT may seem bit awkward at first. But don't be afraid its somewhat easier than c++ when you get more familiar with it. To start of I would like to recommend the first few videos of voidRealms youvideos on c++ QT [this video] to get a feel on QT framework. All of them are really good. Try to do the examples by your own. You will be quite comfortable with the framework after watching these videos. Next if possible try to refer Foundations of Qt Development (Expert's Voice in Open Source) [LINK] which is also a very good reference for QT. After going through few chapters you will be very accustomed to the Framework. Reading C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4 which is a usually

I loved these video tutorials [this video] . Covers an awesome introduction into basic stuff, but a lot of advanced topics, too. I realize that your question includes a pyqt tag. Qt is really easy to handle with C++ though, especially for basic GUI programming. So if you don't absolutely have to use Python this is really worth getting into. On top of that, the python and C++ interface for programming Qt have a lot in common. So in any case it would not be a waste of time. Next time, take 5 minutes and search the web a little. There are tons of awesome tutorials out there, that are just a few key presses away using the search engine of your trust.

From your question, I deduce that you are new to GUI programming. Since you have tagged Qt in the question, I believe you are considering Qt to develop your solution. I suggest you go through Qt documentation and write some simple example programs. Even better would be to begin with Voidrealms' [this video] excellent Qt tutorial videos. That should get you on track.

Definitly QT, Its easy to learn too! -(You can even drag and drop if your feeling lazy) -However considering you want to do everything precisely, I doubt you would use that. Anyway: You can download from here: [LINK] Documentation is here: [LINK] Pretty cool video tutorials here: [this video] Need anything? -Let me know.

Use QTimer for this purpose and make use of SIGNALS and SLOT for the purpose of starting and stopping the timer/s from different threads. You can emit the signal from any thread and catch it in the thread which created the timer to act on it. Since you say you are new to Qt, I suggest you go through some tutorials before proceeding so that you will know what Qt has to offer and don't end up trying to reinvent the wheel. :) VoidRealms [this video] is a good starting point.

If anyone else is interested in learning how to make GAMES using C++ and Qt, have a look at my YouTube tutorial series. It explains the graphics view framework through a series of videos which build upon a single game that we start in tutorial 1. In the slot on_pushButton_clicked() create an instance of the class circle and call the required method through that instance. EDIT: I do not know what method you intend to call in the circle class. But assuming you have a function called myFunc() , the code would be something like: void MainWindow::on_pushButton_clicked() { circle* circleObj = new circle(this); // instance created circleObj->myFunct(); // the necessary actions are done in this function // connect the signals from the circle class if any to the required slots in MainWindow connect(circle, SIGNAL(mySignal()), this, SLOT(mySlot()); } Since you seem to be completely new to Qt looking at your comments, I highly recommend you go

There are a couple things that you have to change. First of, set the row count and column count for your table, using QTableWidget::setColumnCount(int columnCount) QTableWidget::setRowCount(int rowCount) Then, it is always safer to use set sizes for your iteration, to make sure you don't go 'out of bounds'. Get them by: int QTableWidget::columnCount() int QTableWidget::rowCount() Finally to construct QTableWidgetItem you have to use QString instead of std::string (see docs [LINK] ). Here is a minimum example for you: QTableWidget* table_widget = new QTableWidget(this); table_widget->setColumnCount(9); table_widget->setRowCount(9); for(int r = 0; r < table_widget->rowCount(); ++r) { for(int c

@Filip Mirosław, I must admit that I haven't read a single (printed) book about Qt (shame on me). However, there are tons of freely accessible information on the topic out there. My source of knowledge are the documentation [LINK] the examples and tutorials (available also from Qt Creator) [LINK] as well as some pretty good Youtube series in English [this video] and in Spanish [LINK] And of course - Stack overflow. :)

@george, it could be that the parent is set when you add it to the layout. I don't remember exactly. Anyway, take a look at these episodes [this video] . They are already a bit old, but definitely a good start into Qt and GUI programming.
