Let's Build an Audio Spectrum Analyzer in Python! (pt. 1) the waveform viewer.
Why Stack Overflow recommends it
Stack Overflow users link it when someone needs a working example of reading microphone input with pyaudio and plotting it live in matplotlib.
Recommended by 3 people across 3 different months, 2017 to 2023.
What it is
A Python tutorial by Mark Jay, the first of a series on building a real-time audio spectrum analyzer. It shows how to stream microphone data into Python with pyaudio and draw the waveform live with an optimized matplotlib setup.

I'm not sure if this will help, but this video [this video] seems to be pretty canny to what you are trying to achieve.

I think you probably need an additional library to achieve what you want. Here's a video tutorial on how to build an audio spectrum analyzer with Python: [this video] This was final --python2-- code from a commenter on that video (thanks user Hey Jose!) #! /usr/bin/python import pyaudio import struct import numpy as np import matplotlib.pyplot as plt import time #%matplotlib tk CHUNK = 4000 FORMAT = pyaudio.paInt16 CHANNELS = 1 RATE = 16000 p = pyaudio.PyAudio() chosen_device_index = -1 for x in xrange(0,p.get_device_count()): info = p.get_device_info_by_index(x) #print p.get_device_info_by_index(x) if info["name"] == "pulse": chosen_device_index = info["index"] print "Chosen index: ", chosen_dev

I am working with the pyaudio and matplotlib packages for the first time and I am attempting to plot live audio data from microphone input, transform it to frequency domain information, and then output peaks with an input distance. This project is a modification of the three-part guide to build a spectrum analyzer found here [this video] . Currently the code is formatted in a class as I have alternative methods that I am applying to the audio but I am only posting the class with the relevant methods as they don't make reference to each and are self-contained. Another quirk of the program is that it calls upon a local file though it only uses input from the user microphone; this is a leftover from

I am trying to get an fft plot on realtime audio using a USB microphone plugged into my raspi. I want to be able to activate an LED when a certain frequency is detected through the fft plot. I have so far tried to get just a live sound wave to be plotted but I am having trouble. I have followed this video: [this video] I have tried changing the chunk size to a greater value and a lower value but have had no success. For some reason I get the -9981 error but it takes a long time to print the error. No plot is displayed. I have even tried overclocking my Raspberry Pi to see if that would work but it still doesn't work. I was wondering if anyone else had tried something like this on their Pi and if i

Hey @AhmadMoussa, yea it definitely isn't as simple as I first thought it to be. Like I was following this on youtube [ [this video] ] to generate real-time sinwave from microphone input using pyaudio and I was wondering if I can do something similar with librosa to gather information such as the MFCC in realtime, but i don't know if this is achievable, or if there is another way. Thanks again!

Use pipwin to install it first... pip install pipwin then... pipwin install pyaudio I had this issue as well. I found this answer buried in the comments section of the following youtube video: Build an audio spectrum analyzer with python [this video]
