What it is
A 2010 Mozilla UX video by Alex Faaborg explaining why Firefox 4 moved tabs above the address bar. It recaps the long-running arguments for and against the change, then argues the shift reflects the web's evolution into an application platform.

I'd like to add a menu to the glass part of the frame in a C++ application which is using WTL and Win32++. Those libraries are probably largely as this is something I'd need to do from Win32. The latest versions of Opera and the upcoming Firefox are going to be doing this but I haven't been able to find a code example. Has anyone got examples of adding controls to glass that they can share? I guess an example of buttons and things like that are something I could work from. I did some digging with WinSpy but I wasn't able to work out the exact controls Opera were using. I'm targeting Windows Vista and 7 only. I'm interested in learning more about HCI design decisions and practices, but I haven't been able to find any consistent source of articles on the subject: Many blogs have an article or two on the subject, then go off and talk about something else. I would stick to web design blogs, but videos like this one about Firefox 4 tab design [this video] provide evidence that there is a lot of interesting ground to cover in desktop application design. Anyone know where I should get started?
Cites Cameron · 2013-11 · Stack Overflow · on “Native Web App Controls for pinned tabs”
I'm currently looking into building a web app that will have its own custom toolbars and menus. The current plan is to either run it as full screen or use pinned tabs. If you take a look at the following video: [this video] You see that the presenter talks about how HTML5 has native controls and is one of the reasons why browser menus are hidden within pinned tabs. The question is... How and where are these 'native' controls mentioned in the HTML spec? I was planning on just using good old fashioned HTML to build my custom UI but if there is an actual spec for doing it... I'd be interested to take a look at it first. Anyone have any knowledge of this? Update: I have also found this video which ta
