What it is
A short 2016 Firebase "Firecast" in which Laurence Moroney of the Firebase team walks through signing in with Google using Firebase Auth on an Android app. It also shows how the same approach extends to other providers such as Facebook and GitHub.

Have a look at Firebase Authentication [LINK] . It's quite seamless and does not require much effort to incorporate. Also it does not feel intrusive or cumbersome to the end user. Here is a video tutorial [this video] by Google. EDIT: In case your users are sure to have a cellular device with a phone number, you can use AccountKit [LINK] . It is also what they call OTA (One Time Authentication). AccountKit uses just the users phone number to verify and validate users. EDIT: Firebase Authentication now features 'Phone Verification' which is similar to AccountKit mentioned above. Both are good services. I'm trying to set up a Google sign in method in my Android project. First, I've successfully implemented a email sign in method, but I can't get Google's to work. I've read the documentation provided and followed this YouTube video [this video] I can't even find any propper documentation for firebase-auth:11.0.0. Here are my problems: // Sign in with google private void googleSignIn() { /* The Auth class bellow is not recognized by Android Studio or autocomplete */ Intent signInIntent = Auth.GoogleSignInApi.getSignInIntent(mGoogleApiClient); startActivityForResult(signInIntent, RC_SIGN_IN); } After that, I try to create a onActivityResult: @Override public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, i

I have spent a few hours (if not days) reading and trying to get this thing working. I want to be able to authenticate users (and let them register) on my app. I've used, among other things, the Firebase console provided in Android Studio to set up the application (so it's registered and linked, and my google-services.json is indeed in the app folder). The resources I've been following (they somehow ALL provide different code snippets, which is super confusing): Google's YouTube Firebase PlayList [this video] FirebaseUI-Android repo on GitHub [LINK] FirebaseUI-Android's explanation for integration [LINK] Firebase's quickstart-android repo on GitHub [LINK] Some Firebase Documentation I'm not sure

I'm trying to learn how to do this type of Google login in whit firebase.. the user name is null and I don't understand why: acct.getDisplayName(). I followed this guide: [this video] of firebase. I also associated the OAuth 2.0 client ID with the firebase project. @Override public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data); if (requestCode == RC_SIGN_IN) { GoogleSignInResult result = Auth.GoogleSignInApi.getSignInResultFromIntent(data); handleSingInResult(result); } } private void handleSingInResult(GoogleSignInResult result) { if (result.isSuccess()) { GoogleSignInAccount acct = result.getSignInAccount(); Message.s
