How To Call An API in C# - Examples, Best Practices, Memory Management, and Pitfalls
Why Stack Overflow recommends it
Stack Overflow users link it as the tutorial they followed to set up a reusable HttpClient ApiHelper class, usually when asking why their own API call fails.

What it is
A one-hour C# tutorial by Tim Corey on calling web APIs from a WPF app using HttpClient. It loads data from two public APIs, deserializes JSON with Newtonsoft.Json, shows an image from a URL, and covers reusing one HttpClient to avoid memory problems.

I started a new application which utilizes the Omdb API to retrieve movie information. the goal of the application is to retrieve a movie title using a search keyword. ex: "shawshank" should return : {"Search":[{"Title":"The Shawshank Redemption","Year":"1994","imdbID":"tt0111161","Type":"movie","Poster":" [LINK] "},{"Title":"Shawshank: The Redeeming Feature","Year":"2001","imdbID":"tt0293927","Type":"movie","Poster":" [LINK] "},{"Title":"Hope Springs Eternal: A Look Back at 'The Shawshank Redemption'","Year":"2004","imdbID":"tt0443041","Type":"movie","Poster":"N/A"},{"Title":"The Shawshank Redemption: Cast Interviews","Year":"2004","imdbID":"tt5443390","Type":"movie","Poster":"N/A"},{"Title

I've been trying to make a POST request to send a group chat message using the Trillian API [LINK] It works to make a POST request using HttpWebRequest , for which I've included the working code. What I want is to be able to make a POST request using the HttpClient . I cannot seem to be able to put together a method that uses HttpClient to make that POST. I just end up getting the 401 error which means the API token is invalid, but it is absolutely valid because it works with HttpWebRequest . One thing to note is that I have an additional class ApiHelper that I'm using with HttpClient so that I can reuse one HttpClient in the application (idea from Tim Corey: [this video] ). I'd appreciate if som

So I have worked with a Swagger API before but since there is a codegenerator for all API calls i did not really have to worry about that stuff. Now i want to use the following api [LINK] public static HttpClient ApiClient { get; set; } public static void InitializeClient() { if (ApiHelper.ApiClient == null) ApiHelper.ApiClient = new HttpClient(); ApiHelper.ApiClient.BaseAddress = new Uri(" [LINK] "); ApiHelper.ApiClient.DefaultRequestHeaders.Accept.Clear(); ApiHelper.ApiClient.DefaultRequestHeaders.Accept.Add(new MediaTypeWithQualityHeaderValue("application/json")); ApiHelper.ApiClient.DefaultRequestHeaders.Add("Authorization", "Basic clientid:secret"); } I followed this guide: [this video] I ju

I followed a tutorial ( [this video] ) to try and call APIs using C#, and while it worked, my attempts to modify it for my own projects failed miserably. Despite my best efforts and trying various different links on the same website, they all return failure. I was able to access it with python no problem, so the problem seems confined to C#. I have the microsoft.aspnet.webapi.client installed, as well as json. It compiles and runs, just returns failure. ApiClient { get; set; } public static void InitializeClient() { ApiClient = new HttpClient(); ApiClient.Defa
