I think the root cause might be related to the activator UI running Play in prod mode vs develop mode. This question is similar: How to run play project in dev mode with Typesafe Activator UI [LINK] According to Play CoffeeScript Page [LINK] CoffeeScript sources are compiled automatically during an assets command, or when you refresh any page in your browser while you are running in development mode. Any compilation errors will be displayed in your browser: To run in dev mode go into the folder that got created when you fetched the template and use the command: activator run For what its worth to run in prod mode you use activator start command. I am going through the Video introduction to Play Framework [this video] and, but I am stuck creating a DB object with SORM because the import fails. I tried to add the dependencies in plugins.sbt , and relaunched activator, but it seems that activator cannot find the dependencies and I get and I get an unresolved error : addSbtPlugin("org.sorm-framework" % "sorm" % "0.3.14") addSbtPlugin("com.h2database" % "h2" % "1.4.181") I got the versions from the Yvis repository [LINK] . I also tried other versions with no better luck.

I was following play tutorial- [this video] , so created one coffee script called index.coffee. When I run the app, I see index.js missing on browser's console, what is the problem? do I need to install node.js? doesn't that come default with activator? I feel somewhere IntelliJ idea is not converting to to js when I run it/ debug it.
