What it is
A short screen-recorded tutorial showing how to get a headset microphone working through a combo audio jack on Ubuntu. It walks through adding an snd-hda-intel model option, dell-headset-multi, to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, with a note about trying it with or without a comma.

Since the other answers didn't work for my Acer Aspire E5-574-592S, I've tried another way, following this video [this video] . It has been tested on: Linux Mint 19.1 (Cinnamon) Manjaro 5.8.6-1 (Gnome) Steps: Locate the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file if it doesn't exist, create it by running in a terminal: sudo touch /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf ; Edit it: By terminal: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf By graphical interface: sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf . I recently changed from Ubuntu 18 to Ubuntu 20.04 and I have a problem with a combo jack headset microphone of an IPhone. The same device works in Windows (in the same computer) but in Ubuntu focal fossa only the headphones work and the microphone is not working. As you can see in the image below, the output device is fine while the input device is not. [LINK] Previously, until Ubuntu Bionic Beaver, the following [this video] worked. But now it doesn't.

Ubuntu 21.04 Select Audio Device Image [LINK] I've seen in another video [this video] that there is supposed to be an option for Microphone, such that when I plug an external microphone into the laptop, the built in speakers still work . Since headset and headphones are the only options presented on my laptop, when I plug a device
