Coding with Notch (from Minecraft: The Story of Mojang)
Why Stack Overflow recommends it
Stack Overflow users link it as the example of live code editing and hot-swapping they want to reproduce, then ask how it works in Java, C or Visual Studio.

What it is
A short clip from the 2 Player Productions documentary Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, showing Markus 'Notch' Persson writing and tweaking Minecraft code in an IDE. As he edits, the changes show up in the running game without a restart.

In this video : [this video] Notch (minecraft's creator) is doing what he refers to as 'real-time debugging'. He's actually modifying the code and plays with the game at the same time without recompiling everytime. Does anyone know what this is called or where I could get more information on how to achieve this? I've been looking around without any success! Regards, Erwald

How can I enable this "Debugging in Runtime" Notch is talking about in this video [this video] in Eclipse? As a test, I'd like to be able to edit the output of the following code and change it to "Hello Runtime Debugging" while it's running. public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) throws InterruptedException { doIt(); } private static void doIt() throws InterruptedException { for (int i = 0; i < 1000; ++i) { System.out.println("Hello World " + i); Thread.currentThread().sleep(100); } } } EDIT: I modified the code, now I get the results I was looking for. Suraj Chandran's answer [LINK] below explains it. private static void doIt() throws InterruptedException { for (int i =

I only just saw this [this video] video and thought notch's setup was really neat. How do his jars update whenever he saves without him restarting his game? I know enough Java and have had experience with eclipse but I've never seen this done before and it would really speed my development.

There is an old video of Notch debugging [this video] and testing his code and while doing so he simply pauses his game, makes his code modifications, and resume his game with the new changes. I found this old post explaining how he does it [LINK] , but I'm wondering if there is an equivalent to Visual Studio 2012. I know that you can enable Edit and Continue but this is a lot more restricted in the sense that you can't edit anything you want and you need to set a breakpoint. So Edit and Continue is not quite what I'm looking for.

On that video: Coding with Notch [this video] we can see how Notch makes changes to Minecraft code and can immediately see the changes in game. I think that is very efficient and I would like to know how he does that!

I saw more than once people changing code like Notch does in this video [this video] , where he edits the source code and, without recompiling it, the changes get into the game. Right now I'm doing a extended Pong version in C with SDL2 and need this function to edit some variables into the game. Is so tiring to compile, run and go to the edited part of the game every time I do a tiny edit on the source code. What is the name of this technique and how do I do this in my code?
