What it is
A short official Android Developers video explaining runtime permissions introduced in Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It shows how apps request permissions when they are needed instead of at install time, and how to integrate that flow into an app. It is episode 3 of the Android Development Patterns series.

You can check shouldShowRequestPermissionRationale() in your onRequestPermissionsResult() . [LINK] [this video] Check whether permission was granted or not in onRequestPermissionsResult() . If not then check shouldShowRequestPermissionRationale() . If this method returns true then show an explanation that why this particular permission is needed. Then depending on user's choice again requestPermissions() . If it returns false then show an error message that permission was not granted and app cannot proceed further or a particular feature is disabled. Below is sample code. @Override public void onRequestPermissionsResult(int requestCode, @NonNull String[] permissions, @NonNull int[] grantResults)

I am pretty dense, so this post wasn't quite enough for me. Here is the video I eventually found that demonstrates how to request for permissions really clearly - [this video]

Most probably it could be possible that you must have forgot to add Runtime Permissions to access Camera API and thus resulting in App Crash when you try to open camera. Below is the code snipped which you can use to do the same: public void showCamera(View view) { // BEGIN_INCLUDE(camera_permission) // Check if the Camera permission is already available. if (ActivityCompat.checkSelfPermission(this, Manifest.permission.CAMERA) != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) { // Camera permission has not been granted. requestCameraPermission(); } else { // Camera permissions is already available, show the camera preview. Log.i(TAG, "CAMERA permission has already been granted. Displaying camera preview

for marshmallow(API 23) and above you should get permission for location, phone states and other dangerous permissions [LINK] not only in your manifest but in your code (Run Time Permission).for other permissions, manifest is enough. see this video [this video] also you can find your solution in this Q&A [LINK]

I'm using espresso for testing but sometimes I try to get an image form external storage and with marshmallow I need a Runtime permission otherwise there will be an Exception crash and the test will fail. androidTestCompile 'com.android.support.test:runner:0.4' androidTestCompile 'com.android.support.test:rules:0.4' androidTestCompile 'com.android.support.test.espresso:espresso-core:2.2.1' androidTestCompile 'com.android.support.test.espresso:espresso-intents:2.2.1' androidTestCompile('com.android.support.test.espresso:espresso-contrib:2.2.1') { // this library uses the newest app compat v22 but the espresso contrib still v21. // you have to specifically exclude the older versions of the con

You can try this commands for granting and revoking permissions adb pm grant com.package.myapp android.permission.<PERMISSION> adb pm revoke com.package.myapp android.permission.<PERMISSION> Permissions for read/write external storage are android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Here is the link to video where it is explained: Runtime Permissions in Android 6.0 Marshmallow (Android Development Patterns Ep 3) [this video] .

Android Marshmallow 6 supports runtime permission. Runtime permissions only work on Marshmallow and on pre-Marshmallow it still works the old way. You can learn more about it in this Android Developer official Video: [this video] And requesting permission: [LINK]

Did you made sure that you checked for the `ACCESS_WIFI_STATE` before getting the MAC-Address? In M it won't work if you only ask for it in the Manifest you have to implemet it in rumtime like that: [this video]
Cites BalaramNayak · 2016-03 · Stack Overflow · on “Not able to create the folder in external storage in marshmallow version”
As marshmallow introduce Run time Permission you have to check for the permission in run time. You can refer here 1. [LINK] 2. [LINK] 3. [this video] You have to accept the STORAGE permission group from the user dynamically. Go with the below link [LINK]
