Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange users link it when someone is struggling with messy topology on converted text meshes, since the video shows how to get clean geometry for 3D text.

What it is

A roughly 20-minute CG Cookie tutorial in which Jeff Lange builds a fictional movie title sequence in Blender, covering modeling, texturing, shading, lighting and animation of 3D text. It was recorded in an older Blender version, so the interface looks different today.

I have seen some tutorials for cleaning up the mesh on converted text by using the Remesh modifier to create an even grid mesh. Might be worth a try at one of the earlier stages after converting the font. Be sure to uncheck "Remove disconnected parts" and play with the octree depth to see if you can get something workable. Here is a vid showing its use on a single character. [LINK] Added: I just ran across this video [this video] The first part of it shows a way to make text with very clean geometry. Hopefully one if these ideas will help with your project.

When you converted your text to a mesh it is best to do a limited dissolve and remove doubles. Your mesh has a lot of bad topology. I would recommend watching this [this video] also fix what Brenticus said above.

I want to create a text animation in blender. I'm trying to reduce the number of faces in my mesh. I'm having a lot of trouble adding faces to certain letters after I have gotten rid of some of the edges. For example, when I try to fill the letter "A" the entire letter including the negative space is filled. I've tried ripping and separating the match but I haven't had much success. I'm trying to mimic a YouTube tutorial but I'll never get to the end if I can't get the mesh straight. I've included a screenshot of my project and a link to the video. My knowledge of edges vertices and faces or lack thereof is probably was giving me trouble. I appreciate any assistance that you can give me [LIN
