Why Stack Overflow recommends it

Stack Overflow users link it when answering questions about bundling, deploying and shrinking Angular 2 apps, since it shows the offline compiler and Rollup tree-shaking workflow from the Angular team (offline compiler segment starts around 25:30).

What it is

The Day 2 keynote from ng-conf 2016, the Angular conference in Salt Lake City, running about 72 minutes. It includes talks from the Angular team, notably a demonstration of the offline compiler (ngc), tree-shaking with Rollup, and smaller, faster-starting production bundles.

You can use a bundler like Webpack [LINK] or Rollup [LINK] (my preference because it does tree-shaking). The Angular team appears to be putting together some great tooling around Rollup in time for the full release. The day 2 keynote of ng-conf this year discussed and demonstrated the offline compiler . At ng-conf this year, Rob Wormald and Misko presented what looks to be the upcoming official way to deploy applications. There's a new offline compiler that preprocesses your app so the user's browser doesn't need to. The offline compiler inlines all the ES6/ES2015 modules into one file, and then rollup [LINK] is used to perform tree-shaking (remove all but what is actually being used). The result can then be pumped into a minifier to get very small application packages that start 'ridiculously quickly' (that's how Rob described it). See the demo here. [this video]

Angular2 is going to get smaller in smaller now. See ngconf about this [this video] . Its mainly result of tree-shaking minification (loading only code, that really used). Angular 2 seed project [LINK] , wich in prod build loads with ~300kb is already available for use.

Trying to build client-side app by following this video: [this video] All is clear, except where ngc command comes from? it's not part of the package.json scripts that's shown in the video and it's not being added once you install @angular/platform-server package. As it's said in the video, ngc is the internal compiler of Angular2 which will pre-compile all typescript that's built by SystemJS-Builder afterward.
