Fixing npm permissions
Why Stack Overflow recommends it
Stack Overflow users link it when answering npm EACCES and permission denied errors, since it shows the fix of changing npm's global prefix rather than running installs as root.

What it is
A short official tutorial from the npm channel showing how to fix EACCES permission errors when installing global npm packages. It walks through creating a user-owned directory for global installs and pointing npm's prefix and the shell PATH at it, instead of using sudo.

I followed [LINK] to setup correct $PATH for node and then npm install -g react-native-cli Path and reinstall RN cli helped to setup correct path on mac and resolved. Also worth spending time watching the video helped me understand more on NPM install and how to setup Access on Mac [this video]

I was trying to fix some permission errors and clearly did the wrong thing, resulting in whenever i used npm it would give me: bash: /usr/local/bin/npm: No such file or directory I just went to node.js website and selected the installer, ran that. Once completed it setup all the files required. This sorted my npm installation issues out for me. Edit Not quite i still needed to setup permissions to install in node, but it does setup the required directories. I had a look at this video to see how to update my permissions cause my user didn't have access to my node_modules file [this video] hope this helps you out.

After trying anything, I followed this video from NPM. It solved for me smoothly! [this video] Instructions as follow (on older Mac): In the terminal, inside your user directory, create this folder mkdir .npm-global . This will be the new folder where all your global NPM installations will go, instead of the default .npm which has permission issues. cd .npm-global/ Run npm config set prefix /Users/your_user/.npm-global Set the Path for the system to know where to find the packages: Run vi ~/.profile . If you don't have this file, run touch ~/.profile first, then vi ~/.profile . Write export PATH=/Users/your_user/.npm-global/bin:$PATH at the very top. You could also open this file with a text edit

I have spent the last few hours trying every tutorial out there on how to fix npm permissions on a mac. NOTHING has worked thus far. Steps I have taken I have uninstalled node multiple times, tried running brew install node --without-npm then installing npm seperately. I have tried to create my own npm-package file in my root directory and change the npm source and still that doesnt work. I have tried what is detailed here [LINK] I have tried what is shown in this video [this video] I have also tried a few other techniques all similar to above but nothing has worked. Im on a 2015 macbook running a fresh install 0SX Mojave. Any time I try to install a package it errors, and even if I use sudo, npm

Even though I have given access rights to all the users ( admin, myself, staff, everyone ) for that parent directory where this folder will be created but i get permission denied access. Steps I have done so far. I used to run my command with sudo ( not worked ) I watched this permission denied video [this video] on youtube and applied the steps ( not worked ) I even tried to create that folder manually and open all read and write permissions, but when I run my app and the app wants to access that folder it gets denied.
