Why Robotics Stack Exchange recommends it
Robotics Stack Exchange users link it when someone needs a simple worked example of sending a robot to a goal coordinate with Twist velocity commands.

What it is
A ROS Q&A episode from The Construct, run as a screencast, that answers how to drive a robot to a specific (x, y) point by publishing Twist commands on /cmd_vel. It frames the task as basic robot navigation in the odometry frame without obstacle avoidance, and walks through the code in a simulated robot.

I found the solution in this [this video] video. It describes a simple movement to a given point. Originally posted by moshimojo [LINK] with karma: 11 on 2017-11-07 This answer was ACCEPTED on the original site Post score: 0

HI I followed the tutorial Construct ROS tutorial [this video] and this is referencing the question of ROS-Answers How to move to a certain point in space using Twist /cmd_vel [LINK] I am able to move the robot to a coordinate. But it keeps rotating when it reached the goal CURRENT STATUS Currently the robot can go to a single coordinate assigned by goal.x and goal.y when i run the program in the Pi. It keeps rotating once it reaches the goal. QUESTION: How do i stop the robot when it reaches my goal coordinate? How do i add the next goal coordinate in the same code once the first goal is reached? How do i make the robot face a particular direction (pose) once it reached a goal? Please do help me

Basically you need to implement an algorithm for robot control . It could be an open-loop controller, where you command your robot to turn for a certain amount of time and then stop the motion, this will not be precise, but if error is not an issue it will certainly be the easiest way of implementing what you described. All you need in that case is a publisher for applying control signals (velocity commands) and logic for generating the stop command based on a timer. A better way of doing it is with closed loop (feedback) control. If you have a way to input your goal you will need at least the following three components: A publisher for applying control signals (velocity commands) A subscrib

Hi, what you are talking about is called Robot navigation , that is, the ability of the robot to go from one place to another. Then, in order to achieve that, you need to decide at least the following three things: In which frame are you measuring the coordinates (0,0) and (5,5)? Do you need to have obstacle avoidance (that is, avoid any obstacle that may appear between (0,0) and (5,5) when your robot is moving towards the end location)? Is it the location where the robot moves known or unknown? Let's assume the simplest answer to the questions above: We are measuring the coordinates in the odometry frame (I'm assuming you know what odometry is). The problem with this frame is that has a sif

Hello guys, first of all i must excuse i messed up by posting this question wrong and it got to confusing so i delete it and post it correct again. A special excuse to jayess i messed up with copying my code correct he is fully right that at this point: if abs(angle_to_goal - theta) > 0.1: speed.linear.x = 0.0 speed.angular.z = 0.1 Here needs to be bigger then 0.1 before here stands less... So my question is how i can drive with my Turtlebot to a specific point or an array of points i give the robot. I am using Turtlebot package for ros kinetic and i run this in gazebo 7.0. i tried this code: #! /usr/bin/env python import rospy from nav_msgs.msg import Odometry from tf.transformations import
