What it is
Destin Sandlin of Smarter Every Day explains how a Soyuz spacecraft gets from launch to docking with the International Space Station, using orbital animations and NASA footage. He sits in a Soyuz capsule with astronaut Scott Kelly and covers phasing orbits, Hohmann transfers and the controls inside the cabin.

This video from SmartEveryDay explains exactly what takes from launch to orbit, to sinchonize the orbits and then to docking. [this video]

This question focus on space missions docking with the ISS. On this [this video] , the process to rendez-vous with the ISS is described. If I understand correctly, it consists in taking of, place the spacecraft into a stable but lower orbit, wait there for the good timing, and then perform a Hohmann transfer to the orbit the ISS is flying. The good timing is the one such that once on the ISS' orbit, the spacecraft is just few miles in front of the ISS. Although the last step seems clear to me, the first ones don't. What happen between the spacecraft launch and the stable lower orbit from which the last Hohmann transfer will be performed? How is this orbit chosen? How to get there? In short: What

In the Smarter Every Day video How to FLY A SPACESHIP to the SPACE STATION - Smarter Every Day 131 [this video] the host Destin Sandlin [LINK] (seated in the center seat of a Soyuz capsule) asks astronaut Scott Kelly [LINK] (seated on the left side) about reaching the controls especially when under high g force during launch to orbit. Destin: When you’re actually flying here, you’re gonna be under intense acceleration, so how the heck do you push that button right there for example? Kelly: The guy in this seat can kind of reach, but the guy in the center seat has a stick, he can push the buttons. Destin: So he just grabs a stick and he sticks it up there. Kelly: Yeah, it’s a fancy stick, but it’s
