What it is

A short JetBrains product demo of the Meteor plugin in WebStorm 9, showing how to create a Meteor run/debug configuration and debug server-side code from the IDE. The same plugin is noted as available in IntelliJ IDEA 14, PhpStorm 8, RubyMine 7 and PyCharm 4.

WebStorm is the only IDE with native support for debugging Meteor server code - check this video [this video] . Even on Windows, debugging is very simple: WebStorm 9+ Go to Run --> Debug --> Edit configurations... , click the plus sign, click "Meteor". You can add environment variable like ROOT_URL if you need to. WebStorm older than 9 This answer is kept only for historical purposes. You should upgrade WebStorm. On older WebStorms, you used to have to create a Node.js debugging configuration. on the server, export the environment variable NODE_OPTIONS=--debug=47977 . For instance, NODE_OPTIONS=--debug=47977 meteor # Linux/Mac set NODE_OPTIONS=--debug=47977 & meteor` # Windows create a WebStorm/P

The other answers are now out of date. Don't add a Node.js debug configuration as described above, or bother with spyjs. If you're using Webstorm 9.0, it's as simple as going to Run --> Debug --> Edit configurations... , click the plus, click "Meteor". WebStorm may also ask you to install a browser add-on, but that's just for client-side debugging; just add a breakpoint in the server-side code and you'll see it works out of the box. JetBrains have updated the video which was linked to [this video] in Dan Dascalescu's answer above, and it shows you the process I just described.

Trying to run/debug a meteor JS app with the new webstorm 9 (with meteor support) I'm following this tutorial : [this video] If I click on run, chrome is launched and my app is running. But I get this message on the event log : Update for Meteor client-side source files is not available And if I change something in a file (js, css or html) nothing is changing on my app on chrome. I have to manually stop and run again to see my changes. Seems to work on the video though...

When I follow this video exactly [this video] , the debug and run buttons in the Webstorm toolbar are greyed out which means I can't use the new debug features of Webstorm 9 - does anyone have any ideas where I am going wrong? I did the exact same setup on another Mac and it works fine. This Mac did run Webstorm EAP 9 but I deleted it and fresh installed 9.0.1.

WebStorm has had Meteor support [this video] for a few months now. @BenjaminRH, can you please remove the old comment? Thanks!
