What it is

A short beginner tutorial by Jayanam on baking the detail of a sculpted high poly model onto a low poly mesh as a normal map in Blender 2.9 (2.8 also works). It walks through the manual bake setup and then introduces the presenter's own JBake-tools addon to simplify the process.

I'm going to apologize in advance, I get wordy when asking for advice on forums. I figure more context and detail is better than less. There's a tl;dr at the bottom. I'm having an issue that seems like it would have an easy answer if I knew how to properly word the Google search. For context: Basically, at work we need a good, seamless texture of vinyl dutch lap siding. Essentially this [LINK] siding. That's unfortunately the best page I can find that shows pictures of this style; CertainTeed's website has all the technical specs but the pictures are all of a different kind of siding. I've tried to find or make good texture maps for it multiple times over the last couple years, but no luck s

Used this tutorial. [this video] My high poly and low poly models are almost identical. The only difference is that the high poly model has a few extra loop cuts and extrusions. Here is the bake. I have circled the elements that coincide with the actual differences between meshes in yellow. To be clear, those are the parts I want to keep. I would like to get rid of the rest. [LINK] I find the presence of the remaining elements quite puzzling, as they represent parts of the mesh that are identical between the high and low poly versions. Here is a look at the model and its UV's [LINK] As you can see the additional artifacts appear to line up with the UV islands of the low poly mesh, and more specif

What on earth am I doing wrong here [LINK] I followed Jayanam's Blender Bake Normal Map Tutorial [this video] but everytime I do this I get a low poly looking normal map. I must be misunderstanding something fundamental here so sorry if this is a nooby question. I've marked seams on the UV of the low poly mesh, editted the extrusion and the max ray distance but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thank you
