Why Stack Overflow recommends it

Stack Overflow users link it as proof that Qt widgets can be rendered inside an OpenGL or 3D scene, including for in-game GUIs and video playback.

What it is

A 4-minute 2008 demo by Samuel Rødal of WolfenQt, a Wolfenstein-style 3D maze built with Qt's QGraphicsView API. Live widgets such as QWebViews and media players are embedded as surfaces inside the 3D scene.

I highly recommend the use of the Qt Libraries [LINK] for several reasons: The Framework is freely available for Windows, Linux, MacOS X, and a couple of mobile systems. Since version 4.5 the license is LGPL, which basically means that you can use Qt even in commercial applications. The design of Qt is out-standing, e.g. they use modern design patterns and a very consistent interface design (I don't know many other libraries that use object-oriented ideas in such perfection). Using Qt is the same as using Boost: it will improve your own programming skills, because they use such beautiful concepts! They are bloody fast, for instance in rendering (due to the different back-end for OpenGL, Dire

Qt [LINK] can be used to render widgets (including a video player) in an OpenGL scene. It has a multimedia framework called phonon that can play video and audio. See this demo video [this video] . Qt is cross-platform and is now licensed under LGPL.

I have a few questions about Qt. I already know that Qt and OpenGL can be used together. At the moment we are using GLUT at my university (for window and input management). I saw that Qt is able to do the same thing. Are there any disadvantages of using Qt instead of GLUT? (performance wise) I also know that Qt can be used to build a ingame GUI. I even saw this 3d GUI example WolfenQt [this video] . So it is possible. But does it make sense to use Qt for an ingame GUI if you care about perfomance?
