1) How could he hide from Vader? We should consider: "Sensorial Perception" - See, touch, hear, smell etc. Valorum's answer [LINK] cover this. "Extra-Sensorial Perception" - Feel through the force. This is not, covered by the other answer, and here I'll try to make my point. From the movie script [LINK] : 122 INT EMPEROR'S TOWER - THRONE ROOM Vader stalks the low-ceilinged area on the level below the throne, searching for Luke in the semi-darkness, his lightsaber held ready. VADER You cannot hide forever, Luke. LUKE I will not fight you. VADER Give yourself to the dark side. It is the only way you can save your friends. Yes, your thoughts betray you . Yoda (the sole remaining Jedi Master) sets one very specific precondition on Luke being able to call himself a Jedi, that he has to confront Vader. “No more training do you require,” Yoda assured him. “Already know you that which you need.” “Then I am a Jedi?” Luke pressed. No. He knew he was not, quite. Something still lacked. Yoda wrinkled up his wizened features. “Not yet. One thing remains. Vader … Vader you must confront. Then, only then, a full Jedi you’ll be. And confront him you will, sooner or later.” Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - Official Novelisation [LINK] Since he accomplishes this [this video] later in the film, it's fair to say that he's a Jedi. In his lightsaber duel with Vader on the Death Star II, Vader throws his saber at the scaffolding Luke is on. This causes Vader to lose track of Luke. While he searches for Luke, they have a short conversation. Luke is standing still, apparently hiding in dim light. [LINK] Vader can also sense Luke's feelings and realizes that Leia is his sister. When he says that she will turn to the dark side, Luke emerges with a speed that suggests he was crouching down…behind some stairs a few feet away from Vader (his cloak seems to be in the bottom right of the screenshot). [LINK] The choreography here has always confused me because there doesn't seem to be anything under the staircase to hide under, n

In the movies, what lightsabers can cut through seems to be, at best, a mixed bag. Focusing on the earlier movies, IV, V, & VI, where the technology is first introduced, I looked at two major encounters. Here, in the Cloud City duel [LINK] , we can see that neither Luke's not Vader's weapons can cut through other lightsabers (obviously). We can also see that neither can cut through various pieces of metal: railings, floor decking, random mechanical~electrical housings ripped from the walls. However, they can cut through coolant gas conduit piping. Here, in the Throne Room duel [this video] , we can likewise see that floor decking and machine housings are lightsaber impervious. However, sometimes
