MVVM Made Simple with Prism - Webinar
Why Stack Overflow recommends it
Stack Overflow users link it as the tutorial they followed when learning Prism 6 and MVVM, and return to it when the ViewModelLocator, AutoWireViewModel or command wiring does not behave as in the demo.

What it is
A 2015 webinar by Brian Lagunas of Infragistics, co-hosted with Pluralsight, on implementing the MVVM pattern in WPF applications using Prism 6. It covers wiring Views to ViewModels with the ViewModelLocator, BindableBase, DelegateCommand and related Prism features.

You cannot fully compare Prism and MvvmLight. Prism is more about application architecture even though Prism has been known as MVVM framework. Actually until Prism 5 it had nothing to do with MVVM and It didn't have BaseViewModel class in Prism 4.1 and in prior. Prism is not a MVVM framework it is application framework it sits higher than that. Prism 5 introduced some support for MVVM and Prism 6 took it futher. MVVM is just another aspect of problems that prism provides guidance to solve. It is like comparing Angular vs. Knockout. AngularJS manages the whole application and defines guidelines on how the application code should be structured, whereas with KnockoutJS the application structure

Try with EventAggregator from Prism.Core, Basicly u set Publish method where you pass your int and in that user control Subscribe to that event, event will be in your case Window loaded. MainWindowViewModel public MainWindowViewModel( IEventAggregator eventAggregator) { eventAggregator.GetEvent<PassingIntToUserControlEvent>().Publish(HereGoesYourInt); } UserControlViewModel public UserControlViewModel( IEventAggregator eventAggregator) { eventAggregator.GetEvent<PassingIntToUserControlEvent>().Subscribe(SomeMethodYouWantWithYourInt); } and to set that PassingIntToUserControlEvent is so easy. public class PassingIntToUserControlEvent : PubSubEvent<int>{} and your set to go. I was going through WPF Prism examples. In Brian repo found this easy example on simple MVVM WPF app: [LINK] Now I want to put firstName, lastName and lastUpdated properties in separate class, its "Business Model" called Person. I wrote something like this and I wonder, if it is correct. In ViewAViewModel i set up property person using prism snippet: private Person person; public Person Person { get { return person; } set { SetProperty(ref person, value); } } And my Person class looks like this: public class Person:BindableBase { private string firstName = "Karol"; public string FirstName { get { return firstName; } set { SetProperty(ref firstName, value); } } } Now, is it a correct way to do

Is there a recommended way or possibly a guide on implementing background threading in a WPF Prism 6 application? I need to make several WMI calls to hundreds of remote computers and displaying the status and WMI data to the GUI. I've followed this Prism 6 video [this video] to get just about everything working with the exception of the threading.

Based from a video from Brian Lagunas ( [this video] ) I started using Prism 6. I am a little bit confused, where the constructor of the MainWindowViewModel is getting called. I nearly copied his project and can't find the part. If i set a break point in the constructor, it never gets there. Was he no showing something in the video or something?

To keep things simple, I have two comboboxes on my view. I would like to cascade them while adhering to the MVVM design pattern and the PRISM 6 framework. Following Brian Lagunas MVVM/Prism webinar [this video] he mentions the DelegateCommand 's ObservesProperty . I have a hunch that's something I should be using but not sure. I provided a very simple View and ViewModel that I can't get working. XAML (View): <ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding PackageNames}" SelectedItem="{Binding PackageNameSelected}" /> <ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding PackageOptions}"/> ViewModel: public MainWindowViewModel() // Constructor { PackageNamesCommand = new DelegateCommand(PackageNamesCommandExecute); PackageOptionsComma

I am following the Brian Lagunas's tutorial [this video] and have a question. We have a small application setup with PRISM 6 and Unity bootstrapper. I want to use the ViewModelLocator to bind a ViewModel to my view. This works in the "base module" (the one with Shell and bootstrapper), but it seems that there are some issues when using it in other modules. Below you can find the classes for View (XAML and code behind) and for ViewModel . The binding works if I set the DataContext in the code behind manually. while debugging the code I found out that the ViewModel class is never instantiated so I guess the VML cannot find the VM because of wrong configuration. But as far as I can see the naming co

What kind of implementation do you mean? I do not have a custom implementation of the VML. I have followed the instruction from Brian Lagunas link [this video] and thought using the correct namespaces and set AutoWireModel=true would be enough. For my base module it works fine for the my shell class.
