What it is
A 17-second clip from a Linus Torvalds Q&A at Aalto University in Helsinki, where he answers an audience question about NVIDIA Optimus laptop graphics and the lack of Linux support with a blunt, profane rebuke. It is a short, widely shared moment from the longer talk, uploaded by the channel Kuttofos.

Not entirely sure how I fixed it the first time on this system, however I have learned a lot on this issue, and if anyone is having similar issues or symptoms, please feel free to PM me or do something to contact me, and I'll be glad to help (a bit). I'll tell how I got my Nvidia drivers to work on my latest try. Note that I haven't quite gotten my second monitor running off of integrated graphics to work yet, but because the Nvidia drivers are working, I'm thinking it shouldn't be too big of a hassle. I've found that manual installs work best for installing nvidia drivers, so go to the geforce site [LINK] and download the latest drivers. By default, it'll most likely go into /Downloads, but

By default, it'll most likely go into /Downloads, but if not, just know where it is. Then, you'll want to press ctrl + alt +F1-F6 (each is a different login) And then sign in to your account. Then, you'll want to use sudo stop lightdm (or sudo service lightdm stop) This shuts down the things that are using the GUI, so they can be updated. Then run chmod +x ~/* Folder that said driver is located in * / * Driver * For example, chmod +x ~/Downloads/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-343.13.run Make SURE that you have the entire name of the driver, otherwise this will not work! You should try installing the NVIDIA proprietary drivers. If you can't download it via that computer, download it to a USB via another computer and then put it on your PC. By default, it'll most likely go into /Downloads, but if not, just know where it is. (I've heard that this method MIGHT not work well with older cards (such as yours) but it's worth a shot. Also unless you're having issues with nouveau drivers, I'd stick with them if this proprietary install doesn't work.) Ubuntu 21.10+ NVIDIA 470/510 nv_restore_user_channels bug This started happening to me as soon as I moved to Ubuntu 21.10 on my Lenovo ThinkPad P51 NVIDIA Quadro M1200, and based on kernel traces, it is this exact bug: [LINK] My duplicated investigation: [LINK] To reproduce the problem easily, I had to disconnect the power cable from my laptop and be on battery only. Otherwise, the problem would only happen sometimes, and more commonly after suspending for a few hours. Workarounds: option 1: the bug report links to [LINK] from heroic user humblebee which has workaround: sudo systemctl stop nvidia-suspend.service sudo systemctl stop nvidia-hibernate.service sudo systemctl stop nvidia-resume.s

The problem seems to be related to NVIDIA graphics hardware ( [this video] ) Solved the slow unlock time on my laptop by time by switching to the proprietary nvidia driver (search for "Additional Drivers" in Ubuntu): [LINK]
