The data format you're looking at there is called JSON. To get access to that data you'll need to parse it. There are lots of tools in the Spring world to parse and interact with that data format. A few links below A JSON intro: [LINK] [this video] In the Spring world there are a lot of tools to automatically turn that data into an object that you can use. Or you could just parse it to a map. Some examples (there are others): Jackson: [LINK] org.json: [LINK]

While json.decode is the correct method to use, your string is not valid JSON. Your string in valid json would look something like this: { "created_at": "2020-07-09T06:32:19Z", "entry_id": 9510, "field1": null, "field2": 19.0 } If you have a Map that you want to encode to JSON, use json.encode . If this is your first time working with JSON, you might want to check out a tutorial on the syntax first (maybe this [this video] )

As for Json files, you just create a new file and give it the extension `.json` while saving. Json is super easy to learn: [this video]

i'd suggest to watch this tutorial [this video] , you'll get a idea about JSON structures. And as a developer, I feel JSON is just a copy of MAPS, nothing else. JSON is universally used to give and get data between different software. Hence, understanding it is very important.
