@keremistan's comment put me onto the right track by sending me to this tutorial: [this video] . This is mentioned nowhere in Google's docs. The trick they use in the video to modify the config variable to connect to the right URL. No mention of useEmulator() . const firebaseConfig = { apiKey: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FB_API_KEY, authDomain: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FB_AUTH_DOMAIN, databaseURL: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FB_DATABASE_URL, projectId: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FB_PROJECT_ID, storageBucket: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FB_STORAGE_BUCKET, messagingSenderId: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FB_MESSAGING_SENDER_ID, appId: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FB_APP_ID, measurementId: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FB_MEASUREME

To test your Cloud Function using the Firebase Emulator Suite and after installing it [LINK] , you can optionaly make some configurations [LINK] , but you can also follow these instructions based on this video tutorial [this video] as an easy way to start your tests: firebase init Select the products you need. Enter your project ID and other information. Select Functions emulator. Select the port to use (it could be the default port 5001 for Cloud Functions). After setting your Firebase project, now start up your emulator with: firebase emulators:start There you can view status and logs by clicking at localhost link. To get details about how to Connect your app to the Cloud Functions Emulator, yo

[LINK] Here is a piece of the Firebase emulators doc, that says that you can import data to your Firestore emulator by doing: firebase emulators:start --import=./dir This video [this video] from the Firebase channel also talks a little about this. But none of those sources mention how you should structure your data in order to import it to Firestore. I think they assume you are importing something that you've previously exported from the Firestore emulator. But what about when you are starting off your project and you need to feed brand new data to the Firestore emulator? Data to multiple collections. How should that be done? What format should the data be in? NOTE: Don't know if it matters, but

Firebase Emulators Requests to local FireStore unsuccessful Hello, I am trying to setup the Firebase Emulators and my app is still connecting to Firebase(web). When I do a db.collection("users").add(), I see the entry on [LINK] not on [LINK] (host port is 8080, viewer port is 4000) Here is what I have done to far: Firebase emulators:start returns "All emulators are ready!" Firebase.json looks fine (ports look ok) "emulators": { "functions": { "port": 5001 }, "firestore": { "port": 8080 }, "database": { "port": 9000 }, "hosting": { "port": 5000 }, "pubsub": { "port": 8085 }, "ui": { "enabled": true } Before initializing the App, I change databaseURL to my local firestore. Note that in the vid

I’m trying to setup the emulator so I can develop the firebase functions safely before deploying them. I just noticed that some REST calls I’m doing now fails - anybody know if it is not possible to use the REST feature of the RealTime DB [LINK] I'm trying to hit it with this URL [LINK] <PROJECT ID>-default-rtdb/development/DISHES.json because this is what I set the firebaseConfig.databaseURL to (suggested here [this video] by Google) Bonus info: If I try to do a GET to the URL via postman it creates another database called fake-server ( [LINK] null )
Cites The.Wolfgang.Grimmer · 2022-03 · Stack Overflow · on “Denormalization best practices in Firestore”
Looking at this video [this video] , it has a tasks collection and it clones/denormalizes all the completed tasks inside its own collection. As a result, it will have 2 collections: tasks and completedTasks . I know denormalization is recommended in NoSQL type of databases and we have to optimize for database reads. I have a couple of questions to ask about this approach. As far as I know, Firestore bills you with the number of result-set not the number of documents it reads. Secondly, based on the first point, why not simply filter it by completed property instead of creating a totally separate completedTasks collection. In any case, both will return the same number of documents and both will ha
