Quick solution in NetBeans 6.8. In the Projects window right-click on the name of the project that lacks library -> Properties -> The Project Properties window opens. In Categories tree select "Libraries" node -> On the right side of the Project Properties window press button "Add JAR/Folder" -> Select jars you need. Here you will find the answer on how to add jcap.jar: how-to-add-library-files-in-netbeans [LINK] . The absence of javadoc doesn't mean that you haven't added the library itself, because javadocs are usually in separate jars or zips. If the code that uses library method is compiled, than the problem is not in the absence of library. Usually, the source code of any java library, the binary files and javadoc are contained in separate jar-files, zip-files or folders. UPDATE: The soulution is: download jpcap-x.x.zip from here [LINK] ; unzip it to any folder you like; add the doc/javadoc subfolder of unzipped folder to your library in library manager. Firstly, I am considering my answer to show you another better way for connection with MySQL Database, it's much easier and less nu-expected Exception(s) . You need to do some steps: Download Connector/J [LINK] and add it to your class path(if you are using an IDE there is add the .jar to the library, or there is many tuts on [this video] ). Create your database in your MySQL program. See this example below example below I made for you demonstrates how to connect and execute queries on MySQL : import java.sql.*; public class MySqlConnection { private String MYSQL_DRIVER = "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"; private String MYSQL_URL = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test"; private Connection con; private Statem

I am working through Tim Downey's book "Web Development with Java". In chapter 4 one of the topics is logging with log4j. In order to initialise the logger an initialisation servlet is used. One of the classes needed is, e.g., "FileAppender". Hence, there is an import statement at the top of the file for it: import org.apache.log4j.FileAppender; I also used the same import statement. However, netbeans is telling me that this class doesn't exist. (The same is true for any other class from the log4j library.) Normally, when I create an object of a class I have not yet imported, the netbeans IDE offers me to import the respective class. So I created an object of type "FileAppender": FileAppende
