I wanted to do a dual boot with Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.10. I followed this tutorial: [this video] When I was on the installing Ubuntu part, the free space was not showing, it was showing as unusable. So I clicked on my C drive on the installation screen and pressed the - button to remove the partition I created and just created the swap space on the C drive and installed Ubuntu on the C drive choosing to use 50GB. So I installed, rebooted and can no longer run Windows 8, where all my files are accessible. I'm not just talking movies, tv shows galore that I have not watched. I'm talking about all the music I've collected over 3 years and all my pictures and important documents. I know I should ha

The guide I provided in my answer seems to address this. Look at the headings as not all of them are relevant. I would love to help more, but I have to go to sleep. Try this: [this video]

I shrinked one partition using the Windows Disk Management to have free and unallocated space. Booting up the installer via USB I selected "Something else" and created a 4GB swap partition where I had my freed space and the root partition for Ubuntu (in my case 13.04). However it will happen, that GRUB will not be able to boot Windows properly after the installation. This issue can be fixed by using Boot-Repair [LINK] which will handle everything. Here [this video] is even a video tutorial which is basically describing what I have done though it is done in a virtual machine without UEFI but the process of the setup should be same. Moreover Boot-Repair is a one-click tool which shouldn't need any

I don't think you can get back to your windows 7 . You just need to format it then after installing windows 7 you may follow this step in dual booting it. Dual Booting [this video] it's the best tutorial I've seen so far and it worked for me. Even if your in windows 7 It's just the same process though.

I'm a beginner to Linux world. I tried to dual boot Ubuntu alongside preinstalled Windows 8 in my Samsung series 5 np550pc s03in laptop. I have followed this guide - [LINK] and based on the video [this video] , I have created a swap space and Ubuntu OS space. I have disabled Secure Bootloader and Booted in CSM. Everything went fine, Ubuntu 12.10 installed fine and after restart, it doesn't boot up Ubuntu as well as Windows. Just a blank screen displays. After restarting Ubuntu via LiveCD, I selected Try Ubuntu and installed Boot-repair, but I'm still having trouble booting. Here is the pastebin link from boot loader - [LINK] Also, please advise how much space I should allocate for swap. I am goin
