@gandalf3 excellent answer!, I'm following this tutorial [this video] , but I don't have the "extrude vertex normals" option, so, with your answe, I was able to reproduce the same result *(by following the "for example 2:" section)* - I'm using Blender 2.64

I am trying to learn how to use Blender, and tried to create the chest of this tutorial : [this video] I am encountering a problem when it comes to beveling, in order to add more edges to the sides of the chest (21:16 on the video). Before beveling : [LINK] What it is supposed to look like : [LINK] And here is the (atrocious) result I am getting : [LINK] And if I extend the bevel further, here is the result : [LINK] Now, I don't actually understand why I am getting this result... And I hope someone here has an idea about what I did wrong... Here is the .blend file : [LINK]

So I'm just a beginner and I'm just learning some basic modeling, I'm following this tutorial. [this video] And at 21:00 he adds 2 loop cuts in the middle of the chest and then adds 2 more edges to the bevel but when I do it you get the following. I've already exhausted my limited knowledge and I just don't know what to do. The only way I can think of to fix it is to manually move and rotate the edges so they line up the way they did in the tutorial I cited earlier. [LINK] [LINK]
