Nah you're doing fine, we all had a hard time at the beginning. I'd have several suggestions to get you started. 1) If your just starting with Blender (and your computer fulfills the minimum requirements) use Blender 2.8. This will help you because the UI is better and you don't have to relearn things later on 2) Watch lots of tutorials to learn the basics ( [this video] ) 2) Do small projects, don't try to do a whole animated character from start to finish right away. This will only get you frustrated.

This playlist is also very useful: [this video] - But phew, 2 minutes is A LOT of work, I hope you can make it :)

Also, it seems like you aren't aware of *edit mode* (shortcut tab) this mode lets you modify an existing object's geometry. The most basic shortcuts to create new geometry are E to extrude a face or CTRL + R to add a loop cut. You can also access these in the left hand panel. I suggest following along a few videos in the official blender channel on youtube to familiarize yourself with it [this video]

[LINK] Here, click this. You probably just misclicked. Also, since you asked a question like this, I'll assume that you are new to Blener, like me. I strongly recommand you to this official tutorial [this video] . Tho it is based on 2.8, it helps me a lot, and your problem is mentioned at 2:50 in the second video of this series.
