Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange users link it as the go-to walkthrough for lego-fying or voxelizing models with geometry nodes, and many questions come from people following its steps.

What it is

A Blender geometry nodes tutorial by Joey Carlino showing how to turn any model into Lego bricks using Distribute Points in Volume, instancing, and the new instance attribute support in Blender 3.4. It also covers transferring colors via UVs and notes how to change settings so the result can be realized and exported.

Your GN setup is much too complex for me to get a quick overview, but Joey Carlino made a good tutorial on how to "lego-fy" things in Blender... and he had no overlapping problem if I remember it correctly: Lego anything with this NEW Blender geometry nodes feature [this video]

No, that’s just not how cell fracture works. It cuts the mesh into cells along planes. If you want to make a mesh out of custom pieces though, I recommend you look into Geometry Nodes solutions with instancing the pieces on points distributed in a volume (such as shown in this YouTube tutorial [this video] ), but the result will probably be only simple 1x1 bricks or randomly chosen pieces, not correct special bricks and such. For more precise LEGO models, you can find or build them on Mecabricks and then use their Blender add-on to import the LEGO models as separate bricks.

System: RTX 3080, Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 Disclaimer: I am very new to blender. Hi everyone! My main goal is to export the LEGO version of my model with the correct colors (as shown in the second picture). I followed this [this video] tutorial but are yet to find a way to export the model nor give it the right colors. The youtube guy said you need to realize the instances before you can export them, so I used the "realize instance" node right before the end. When I place that, I lose the UV Maps / textures of the model. I have tried placing the realize instance in every place imaginable, but to no avail. Screenshots below so you know what I am talking about! Thank you for any help! -Ja

I make a Lego model using Geometry Nodes from this tutorial: [this video] . [LINK] But now all the legos have the same rotation and face in 1 direction. If I want the Lego rotate followed the face normal (like the egg below). Do you guys know how to do it ??? (Lego limits by the 90-degree rotation, can't rotate freely) [LINK]

Cites Aerobird98x · 2023-04 · Blender Stack Exchange · on “How to scatter objects only on the topmost faces of the topmost layer of voxels of a multi-layered voxel grid?”

[LINK] I created a geometry node setup that "voxelizes" objects using the 'mesh to volume' and 'distribute points in volume' nodes, the voxels are instances of a '1m x 1m x 1m' cube which are instanced there using the 'instances on points' node. [LINK] The logic of the voxelizer is not mine, see this video: [this video] Now I want to scatter objects only on the topmost faces of the topmost layer of voxels, like grass, mushrooms, flowers etc using the 'distribute points on faces' node. [LINK] Currently I have a "mask" put into the selection socket of the 'distribute points on faces' node that filters out faces with normals pointing elsewhere than up. It works but does this for every voxel not just

I followed this tutorial [this video] on how to "lego-fy" model in Blender. It works out and now I want to apply the Geometry Nodes modifier. I figured that I need to use the Realize Instances node to make that possible, but when I apply it, the material is gone and I don't know how to make it both modifier apply-able, and also keep the material colors on. I attached the Blender file for this as well: [LINK] [LINK]

Cites tomh · 2023-11 · Blender Stack Exchange · on “Can't apply material colours to the Lego Blender tutorial I'm following”

I'm following this tutorial [this video] on using Geometry Nodes to turn a beach ball into lego pieces. Everything works correctly until the step at 6m10s. The lego model is supposed to suddenly take the colour of the material at each lego brick position. Mine stays a dull orange colour. I am using Blender v3.61, but he was using Blender v3.4 What am I doing wrong? My .blend file: [LINK] Node setup: [LINK] Shading setup: [LINK]
