Blender Intermediate Modelling Tutorial - Part 2: Boolean!
Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it
Blender Stack Exchange users link it constantly because beginners following this anvil tutorial get stuck on Boolean, mirror and subsurf steps, and answerers also cite it as a guide to Boolean modifier use and clean topology.

What it is
Part 2 of Andrew Price's Blender Guru intermediate modelling series, where he builds an anvil and uses the Boolean modifier to cut a cylinder out of the base. He then cleans up the resulting n-gons and tris, adds mirror and subdivision surface modifiers, and talks through topology.

In order to fix this you are going to need to clean up your mesh. There are a lot of ngons and tris all over the place. You mainly want to be working with quads when modelling things. Since it looks like you're working with boolean modifiers to cut those holes I'd recommend watching this tutorial by Andrew Price: [this video]

Boolean operations always messes with the topology of the mesh, you can go around this in some ways, but the best practice is to invest in understanding topology, and how to create the best topology for Your model. In this Example, I would make the model without the boolean modifier and do something like this: Without subsurf [LINK] With subsurf, and edge crease on the edges to create sharp edges. [LINK] If you want to learn about topology, the anvil series [LINK] by Blender Guru is quite good. He also addresses the issues with the boolean modifier and the topology (in part 2) [this video] . I am currently trying to develop my modeling skills, and following a tutorial found on YouTube. The tutorial teaches how to create an anvil. At 19:10 or so into the video, a subdivision surface modifier is used to create a smooth, soft look. However, when I do the same, mine looks very sharp and generally bad. Any ideas why? I will include the blend file below, I appreciate your time and suggestions. The Tutorial I'm following (skip to about 19:00) [this video] This is his when he subdivides, which is very different from mine when I do the same at the same settings. (I cannot post more pictures because I am new, but if you check the blend file I attached, you should be able to see the difference.

yes that's the difficulty. you have to model it by hand. but you can try to merge it with the boolean operation( [this video] )

So I have been following the Blender Guru modeling tutorial with minor changes every thing looked OK till he added the sub-surf modifier and I have no idea how to fix (followed tutorial [this video] ) this is my edit view with and with out sub surf [LINK] [LINK] and this is how it should look like [LINK] [LINK]

I was following this tutorial: [this video] His faces have continuous "flows", but mine doesn't for some reason. I've removed doubles. [LINK] What could be causing this break of face flow?

I think you should try turning on 'Clipping' in the mirror modifiers tab and then try moving the vertices closer to the axis. This might probably help [this video]

I'm doing this tutorial: [this video] and by 5:11 min you can see, that the guy makes a cylinder to cut a part out from the anvil. I understand how to use boolean. I have to choose the anvil, then add boolean modifier and pick the cylinder object to make the move. I did everything just the same way as the guy, but as you can see on the attached picture my cylinder doesn't affect the anvil as on the tutorial. When I change the viewport to wireframe it seems good, but when I apply the modifier and I change the viewport again to solid, it's a full anvil again. I tried the method on an other layer with a square and an uv sphere and its works fine. When I copy the anvil to the other layer the problem

I am new to Blender and I´ve decided to watch Blender Guru´s video on how to make an anvil. I´ve come to the second part where he uses a boolean modifier and that´s where my problem appeared. When I use the boolean modifier to curve a cylinder shape into the anvil it also deletes the faces which in the video it does not. I think I followed every step so I can´t really tell where I´ve made the mistake but I can´t find a solution. Here´s a link to the video: [this video] And a screenshot: [LINK] Thanks for help.

[LINK] I am trying to follow Andrew Price's Anvil tutorial using Blender 2.8 and the 'Difference' modifier just isn't working for me. I don't have the 'Maximum Draw Type' that I can change from solid to wireframe (mentioned at 5:07 [this video] ) See Screenshot. [LINK] I started a new Blender project and I was able to start a new project and 'cut' a cube with the difference modifier just fine, AFTER I applied the modifier. But I was unable to use the same technique to continue cutting the anvil back in my anvil project. Can you see any reason why my difference is not working and/or suggest what I should do to make it work? I've spent more time than I want stuck on what seems like should be an eas
