Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange answerers point people to it when someone wants to attach or blend two meshes smoothly without a boolean or seams, and askers cite it as the tutorial they are trying to follow.

Recommended by 3 people across 4 different months, 2017 to 2021.

What it is

A short Blender tutorial by Max Puliero showing how to join hard surface objects so they look like one mesh without using booleans. It combines snapping, a Shrinkwrap modifier on a vertex group, and a Data Transfer modifier that blends normals across the join.

You can turn on snapping in the view header and if you set the origin of your primitive to the bottom of the object, then you can move it about the surface of the main object and have it snap to the faces. [LINK] Max Puliero [this video] has a great video showing some cool stuff with this.

You could use the Shrinkwarp modifier on only the vertices that you want to attach and then blend the normals with the data transfer modifier. Like in this 8 Minute Video: [this video] It looks like one mesh if done well and it is nice to position anywhere you want on your jacket. You can also just duplicate the whole thing and you have a second pocket without any need for further modeling.

I think this can be done nicely with a shrinkwrap modifier on a vertex group and then using a data transfer modifier to blend the normals so it looks like a smooth connection. This video explains that in detail: [this video]

I think this can be done nicely with a shrinkwrap modifier on a vertex group (the neckline of the head mesh) and then using a data transfer modifier to blend the normals so it looks like a smooth connection. This video explains that in detail: [this video]

Either boolean union them together and sculpt the joint smooth, or use this technique: [this video] Personally I really like the shrinkwrap technique like in the video!

I'm following a tutorial how to blend 2 object and get a smooth transition using the data transfer (after Shrinkwrapping my object), but I still seem to be getting the hard outline. Any ideas why this is not smooth? Reference for the tutorial is at 4min to 5min. [this video] And here is my result which I'm getting. [LINK] [LINK]

I'm trying to follow this tutorial on how to deform my object relative to targeted surface. [this video] I can't seem to do it the same way, I tried to follow every single step but the object doesn't deform the way I wanted to. Here I attached my blender file to see how it looks like and so you can spot my mistakes. [LINK]

how are you guys finishing the video tutorial below: How can I weld one surface to the other, without seams appearing, after aligning them? [this video] thanks
