What it is

Ian Hubert walks through two ways to add a glowing lightsaber blade to live footage in Blender: rotoscoping the blade by hand, and tracking it. He also covers masking foreground objects and modelling a lightsaber. It is a short, casual VFX tutorial built around a fan film of his own.

[LINK] [LINK] So I want to make a lightsaber. As I animate glowing plane on top of video ( I used a plane and then added video as texture as advised here [this video] ) everything seemed fine. The plane was aligned with the stick I was holding in my hand. Then, as I started rendering the whole thing, animated plane started lagging behind the video. It was like Blender skipped and duplicated frames whenever it wanted to. Any suggestions on how to solve it? One more thing. I duplicated the "video plane" so that lightsaber isn't visible as it passes behind something. Also, I finally managed to align everything, and render was ok. As I came back to the project after rendering, it was missaligned agai

I'm trying to follow the Ian Hubert's tutorial for making Lighstabers in blender. When I imported my video, when I change the vector option to window, the video gets flipped. I tried rotating changing the camera angle etc. but it still doesn't work. [this video] This is the video. The timestamp is at 1:23.

I recently watched Ian Hubert's lightsaber tutorial [this video] . About midway through, he discusses using a plane with an emission material and a clean plate image (as the color) to animate the lightsaber ignition. I played around with a couple of different videos I had, and in each case, the plane was clearly visible in the render and did not blend well with the underlying video footage. I ended up finding another tutorial [LINK] that shows how to make a phone appear to levitate through the use of a mask and clean plate image. I tried this approach as well, but again the mask was clearly distinct from the rest of the video. I know some steps can be taken to try and minimize the issue--having f
