What it is
A five-minute Blender 2.82 tutorial by Royal Skies that walks through weight painting a character for rigging, covering how to paint weight layers onto bones so the mesh deforms correctly. It is part of the creator's Blender 2.8 speed tutorial series.

The weighting of the vertices to the armature is not correct, you just need to properly weight them. This tutorial teaches how to do that: [this video]

Duarte Farrajota Ramos is right that some more images or gifs would be helpful, but I'll try my best to understand your question. I've had a look at your models and see that you've got some experience with modelling, that's good. The problem with the joints that you're describing, it works that way because you've made it that way. With your first model the upper arms, the lower arms and the torso are all separate meshes. You want these to be one mesh. You say the bones move weird. You have a basic rig but it's not very functional at the moment. John Eason is right that there are many videos to help you out on YouTube, however not all of them respect your time. Royal Skies [LINK] is a channel

When I paint the bones on the arm for example, everything looks fine initially. Coming back to the bone later, I find that the bone suddenly has influence on points on the torso. I'm trying to rig a humanoid model and I'm currently on the weight painting step. I created an armature and parented the mesh to the armature with automatic weights. This step gave pretty crazy (weight painting related) results so I started to manually weight paint. Based on the suggestion from this video [this video] , I enabled auto-normalize and x-mirror for the tool. I unchecked front faces only and changed fall off to projected. Some other info about the mesh - I have a mirror modifier on - I don't think it's the ca

Thanks for replying. I'm also having trouble finding this in older versions at the moment. But here are several YouTube videos clearly showing snap settings in weight paint mode: [this video] [LINK] [LINK]
