What it is
A feature-length Blender tutorial by CG Geek that builds a realistic city scene. It starts by importing real-world street and building data from OpenStreetMap, then covers texturing the buildings, adding roads and rooftop details with particles, lighting with an HDR, and rendering. The description links the add-on, textures and a sample map.

As far as I know There is no way to do this from Google Earth. There is, however a site called openstreetmaps.org that lets you do what you are envisioning. A great tutorial i found is CG Geek's Realistic city tutorial [this video] you probably dont need to watch the whole thing, but the first part will show you how to do this

You can not achieve this as you would want in blender. There is no current add-on that creates procedural buildings (geometry) from shapes. All you can do is import the OSM with building geometry and then procedurally/manually texture the buildings. Please see this tutorial on how to do this: [this video] Be advised OSM does not have height data outside of North America.

I believe you can! Watch this video on YouTube [this video] There he builds an entire city, with a real cool fast map cheat, and then applies textures to many buildings at once. You will learn some other cool stuff as well. I hope that helps. Yiuliana

You can see some tutorials on YouTube in which there is wide use of compositing . These are some examples Blender guru earth tutorial [LINK] CG geek city tutorial [this video]

I'ts been 10 hours of researching, watching tutorials, trial and error and yet i still cannot figure this out. I have 2 planes, one being my water for my city and the other being the ground. I'm trying to intersect the water with the ground so it will make a little divot like in the image below but every time I do that the mesh disappears or it won't allow me to even intersect it with the Bboolean modifier. I tried Ctrl + N , removing doubles, making the ground a cube instead of a plane and yet none of these work. I'll upload the file below but this is just the current lake I've tried out of the 200 other attempts. The tutorial I'm following is this [this video] At 55:36 mark is where I'm stuck.

I am doing this tutorial [this video] where CG Geek shows how to build a realistic city. After about 45 minutes the city has basically been built. And now a few small buildings are created on a separate layer and a Hair particle system is created to grow the small buildings (as a group) out of the roofs of the high rise buildings [LINK] Not all of those small buildings are placed within the boundaries of the roofs. How can I control the positioning of these hairs so that all small buildings are neatly placed at the roofs ? [LINK]

I'm trying to follow this tutorial: Create a Realistic City - Blender Tutorial [this video] At timestamp 6:38 , he selected all of the objects (using A ) then joined them together using Ctrl + J . However, when I use Ctrl + J , nothing seems to happen. I am using Blender v2.78

This is the tutorial: [this video] at minute 10:55 you can see the view he is in and it's nothing like what i'm getting.
