How to Create a City in Blender
Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it
Blender Stack Exchange users link it as the standard walkthrough for generating cities with particle systems, and as a reference point when people get stuck partway through the tutorial or need a timestamped clip on applying scale.

What it is
A one-hour Blender tutorial by Andrew Price of Blender Guru that walks through building a city scene using Cycles. It covers modeling low-poly buildings, laying out a street plan, and scattering a group of buildings with a particle system, then texturing and rendering the result.

If you need to work with Cycles, there is the BlenderGuru tutorial [this video] on building cities. It uses a particle system with one particle (from a group of objects) per face of your street plan. With a group of 30 to 40 low-poly building models you can build a pretty substantial city. In this case I did not need streets so I packed my buildings tight but the tutorial includes a technique to create them. I used three particle systems one for the center with a dozen different models, another for the hi-rises with another set of models and a third system for the outlying lower buildings.

Select the object and press CTRL + A in 'Object Mode'. Apply the Scale , then try to unwrap. You can also see the fragment of Blender Guru's tutorial, where he's talking about it: [this video]

I am doing a Blender tutorial from Blender Guru on How to Build a City ( [this video] ) and I'm around the 30 minute mark where you insert your buildings as a group particle system. Many problems arised once I did so, for starters the buildings were emitting the wrong side of the plane (through the bottom), I fixed this. The buildings were also still overlapping even after I unchecked random, I fixed that as well. Now there's only one problem I can't seem to fix. The particle system of the buildings is emitting the proper way (upwards out of the plane), but they are still upside down (on themselves). Picture down below (first picture shows the top, where the entrance is, the second pic shows the

i am trying to mimic this video [this video] but i am struck at 2:30, where he grabs up the cube over z-axis, but the origin point stays where it was earlier, can you now figure out where am i going wrong ???

This is the youtube link [this video] (around 30:10). Doesn't seem like any conversion was done in the video . I have also attached my file above. Thanks

I'm rendering a low-poly building/skyscraper for a city that I am creating. I have been following this Blender Guru tutorial [this video] on YouTube and my models and textures have been looking great, but now when I go to render cycles is appearing weird with a black background and a pink shading. Here's a screenshot: [LINK] I understand that my lighting isn't great yet, but I don't understand the pink colors. Thanks ahead of time.

Ah ok. I only have versions back to 2.80 here, but a quick search seems to infer that the method to **apply** the scale to an object was the same in 2012 as it is in the latest versions. This [this video] snippet of a tutorial from Andrew Price using Blender 2.62 uses that hotkey combination.
