Blender 2.7 Tutorial #66: Cartoon Eyes Rig #b3d
Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it
Blender Stack Exchange users link it as the standard walkthrough for moving pupil textures across a face with a UV Warp modifier and a control bone, and as the source when their own rigs misbehave.

What it is
A 32-minute Blender 2.7 tutorial by BornCG on building animatable cartoon eyes on the surface of a 3D or 2D character. It walks through knife project, UV mapping, texture painting, a UV Warp modifier driven by an armature bone, and custom bone shapes.

Actually the problem is that you're deforming the object in 3D. The material setup, that works fine for a 2D object, will deform in 3D. You could fix that with the Mapping node, but as you want to animate the pupil, you need to find another solution, because animating with the Mapping node would be a bit tedious. A quick way to do it is to create an empty, parent it to the head and give your Texture Coordinate the empty as Object : [LINK] Now when you move the empty the pupil follows. You can give it a Limit Location constraint ( Local Space mode) so that it sticks around the eye area when you manipulate it: [LINK] [LINK] A more accurate solution would be to give your eye an Image Texture an

Yes because the empty position will determine how the white circle is projected on the black surface, maybe the best method for you is the one I've linked here, a bit more tedious to make but it will make the control much easy: [this video]

I have no idea how to phrase the question, sorry for that. I'm completely new to blender, I've followed this tutorial [this video] to a T to create a bone that controls the movement of a texture (in this case the eyes, as I have a cartoony anime style head and spheres don't work with their shape) and it works exactly as it does in the tutorial, but I'm having a problem with the eyes not moving "straight" together horizontally - they move almost along a curve. Vertically they seem to move fine. This appears in the tutorial as well however it isn't addressed. Is there a way I can make the eyes follow the bone exact rather than how it follows above? (and yes the eyes move in the opposite direction o

I guess you have 2 solutions, either use UV Warp modifier to stick pictures that you can animate on the surface: [LINK] / [this video] or use sphere that you squeeze with Lattice: [LINK]

I followed this tutorial: [this video] When I try to scale the bone to make the eye smaller the texture multiplies as shown here: [LINK] [LINK]

Related [this video] ... as you can see your Q is on the way to be closed as opinion based. Already you know 2D over 3D is possible ... Please change title to something more specific ... also some reference image or gif would be helpful.

I just recently modeled a character with 2d Eyes. The eyes are flat planes that rest on the surface of the face via applied shrink-wrap mod. The eyes have a texture of the pupils and the pupils move by using UV Warp and a single bone. (Tutorial Video Here) [this video] [LINK] Now, it's clear to me that this method of eye animation is purely for animation and not really adequate for exporting to use in things like video games or motion tracking software. So here's my hypothetical: how can I do 2D eye movement on the surface of a mesh? I've been using blender on and off for about a year and this is my first time trying to import a model to Unity and possibly use the model in motion tracking softwar
