What it is

A 15-minute beginner tutorial from BornCG's Blender 2.7 series on the Mirror modifier. It shows how to prepare a simple character head mesh, add the modifier, set clipping and merge limit, and avoid problems near the mirror seam, finishing with the Inset Faces tool to build a mouth.

You'll notice you have no mirror object. Try playing around with that. In fact, try watching this video: [this video] or this video: [LINK] which is simpler.

I've found that when starting out modeling a head, it's helpful to insert a background image and simply draw the head by extruding a vertex around it. Then you can add depth to the head and make it look realistic. These two videos got me started with the basics of modeling a head from scratch. [LINK] [this video] To add a reference image to model from, first press numpad 1 to go to front view. If the view isn't already orthographic, press numpad 5 to switch to orthographic. Then, press the N key to open the right toolbar, and scroll down to "Background Images". Check the box, then expand the menu and click Add Image. Set the Axis as "Front", then click Open to open the image you want to use. Do t

I'm pretty much brand spanking new on blender and I was following a tutorial on mirror modifiers when I realized my cube was not scaling as it should. As you can see here, I was scaling out the inner faces on all six sides after I subdivided the cube twice. Problem is on alternating corners such as the top left and bottom right, it's making this kind of corner as if it doesn't want to move like it should or how it did in the tutorial. I looked up the tutorial several times to see if he had changed a setting and I hadn't seen a thing different between what I did and what he did. Below is a link to the tutorial in case this helps because I'm thoroughly stumped. Edit: Adding a few other pics to

I assume that you're talking about his use of the "mirror" modifier. At exactly 2:00, he checked the "clipping" box. What this does is it restricts edits to the object that would extend it past a line drawn through the origin point, perpendicular to the mirrored axis. For example: [LINK] "Clipping" prevents me from moving the selected edge past the origin point along the X-axis. Without clipping, this would be possible: [LINK] For more, see this video on the mirror modifier [this video] .
