Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange users link it as the tutorial they were following when their rig breaks, and as a go-to reference for learning armatures, IK bones, and automatic weight parenting.

What it is

Part one of a two-part rigging tutorial in Sebastian Lague's Blender character creation series. He builds an armature for a simple low-poly character, covering bone setup, mirroring, and inverse kinematics for the legs with pole targets and control bones.

I am trying to parent two bones together on the human body I made. For some reason, on 2.77, no matter what parent option I use, the bottom abdomen bone and the upper leg bone wont "connect" (as much as they can when it comes to parenting). I'm using this video to learn how to rig, but what it tells me to do doesn't match up with what is happening on my screen. Any suggestions, tips, or option changes I don't know about? I'm aware similar question was asked before, but anserws there couldn't solve my problem. Here is link to my (based on this YT turtorial [this video] ) model: [LINK] I was striclty fallowing instructions and when it came to parenting armature with mesh, problem started. Armature didn't afect the mesh at all. I checked the mesh and the the whole amature but it all seems to be like it should be. Even in weightg painting it was showing that all vertecies are asign to individual bones. Armature modifier also refers to vertex groups and when I uncheak it I could see my mesh reacting to it ( but only in this instance ). I need some help with this. I have no idea what is wrong and it slowy drives me a l

I've been following this [this video] tutorial series, and he uses IK bones and the other types of bones that I've forgotten the name of (edit: since remembered, 'pole target'), a controlling bone under the foot and bone constraints. What are IK bones, and what do they do?

Cites GarryF · 2016-02 · Blender Stack Exchange · on “Rigging my First Model - How do I IK rig the legs?”

This is my first character model I have made and am trying to rig. It is nothing complicated as I am trying to learn how to create and rig a character before trying to make things complicated. However, I can't figure out how to IK rig my character's leg. I have been following this tutorial [this video] , but once I get to the Leg ik.L bone things start to mess up such as the bone separating or the whole leg twisting to the right and left of the model very strangely. So, I decided to change the foot to a more simple style and I was hoping somebody would be able to help me IK rig the leg and foot. I've been following a youtube video to learn about 3d modeling and adding armatures to meshes (video: [this video] ) and whenever I try to parent the armature to the mesh it twists and deforms the mesh. I done a good bit of research on what worked for other people have done to fix the problem and so far none of it has worked for me. So far I have reset rotation of all bones to zero, made sure the bones were mirrored perfectly, changed pole angles, and other things similar to this. None of these have seemed to solve the problem so far. Any and all help is welcome :) After parenting: [LINK] And my blend file can be found here: [LINK]

I was learning rigging using this tutorial [this video] , but when I add automated weights to the mesh and move its head hat stays in the same place . why does it happen ? all mesh parts are joined together . did I do something wrong /miss something ? Blender file [LINK]

I feel like an idiot for not being able to follow this tutorial, but it seems things have changed. [this video] I dont want to follow the tutorial exactly because the FlipNames has changed, it leaves the .001 extension. If I select W>symmetrize parent bones stay on the left side, and only the children bones are copied(and parented to the left side). [LINK] Here's the file [LINK]

I've been using this tutorial ( [this video] ) to create sticky feet and hands for my character rig. Sticky feet I've noticed is pretty standard for character rigging but I also need sticky hands for climbing animations so the hands don't move from their position when the rest of the body is being pulled up on the side of a cliff for example. The issue I'm having is creating an animation for the arms similar to swinging a tennis racket so the hand basically moves from point A to point B following a path that's similar to half a circle. Simply putting the hand control bone at point A and then a few frames later at point B, makes the bone move in a straight line and not the circular motion that I n

This is the tutorial I used for learning IK rigging. [this video] It's difficult to do this kind of rigging with stick figure legs, since they don't have feet and their legs are really close together in a t-pose. Is there a recommended way of rigging stick figure legs with inverse kinematics?
