What it is
A 2014 Minecraft tutorial by impulseSV showing how to build a cheap, compact villager breeder for version 1.8 that produces roughly one villager every ten minutes with no manual input. The design includes an on/off switch and was inspired by a no-redstone breeder by Drakkart.

For a villager to harvest, he must: Be a brown-robed villager (probably your problem) Have a farm around him that has either wheat, carrots, or potatoes Also, the villagers won't throw seeds, only the food. Check out this [LINK] video for a farm. Just some more information (if you wanted to build a breeder or something, what you want to do is not clear in the question) Minecraft declares something a village when: There are oak doors Those oak doors have a "roof" over them (basically just a block above the door) There must be some villagers near (you might want to enclose them) For more information, check out this [this video] video if you want to build a breeder Source: My knowledge and the good

I've had your problem before and I think it's because the villagers aren't 'willing' to breed. The breeder has to be built in a certain way to make them willing and ImpulseSV made a great tutorial for a villager breeder that should work if you do everything he does in the video.

I have followed ImpulseSV's design for a villager breeder: This worked for a while but then stopped after a zombie seige; I repopulated the 2 villagers up top but left the one at the bottom as it was still alive. Now it doesn't work. Any ideas?

I built this village Breeder [this video] on my server and it was working just fine. They were breeding and generating new villagers. I decided to build an automatic wheat, potato and carrot farm with those villagers, so I moved 6 villagers (2 per farm and 1 brown coat per farm) to the farm area. On a simple test, the wheat farm was working and I got 30 breads within 20 minutes. Since the breeder was REALLY full, more than 30 villagers (after the relocation), I decided to kill some of them. I built a water stream underground leading to a block full of lava. I know 100% I dind't killed a single villager with a sword or anything comming from my player. Now, there is nothing working. The villager br

The occupation of each villager is completely random, with nothing to change that(except cheats). But you can look at the coat of the zombie villager that you're curing, to see if it has a brown coat, so there's a chance it could be a farmer. Or you can set up a villager breeder, you can separate the farmers from the other occupations.
