What it is

A 69-minute Blender 2.8 tutorial by aVersion Of Reality on modeling anime or cartoon hair as a mesh. The hair is built flat and wrapped onto the head with Curve, Simple Deform and Lattice modifiers, giving clean topology and UVs. It covers making spikes, keeping UVs intact, proportional editing tips and a timelapse of modeling bangs.

If you don't want to use a hair particle system you need to model hair as a mesh. Here are two tutorials that go into the details of this kind of workflow: [LINK] [this video] In a nutshell: You need to model the hair as a mesh, just like the head and and other solid object. Non-destructive editing (via modifiers) would save a lot of time and give some flexibility make changes later. In 1st video I have shared a fairly classic method of hair modelling is described; a curve to determine the flow of hair and another curve to serve as profile. I think working on a single clump of hair (as described there) is a great start. Also you can check out this tutorial for making a stylistic hair material: [L

I've been following this video [this video] and managed to do the hair correctly for the front part of my head, but for some reason I'm unable to get the mesh to properly follow the curve for the hair mesh meant to come down the side of the head. The Mean Tilt for my curve is the same as the curve for my front-facing hair curve, and yes, the origin of both the curve and mesh are at the same spot. The curve is set to -Z because I want the mesh to be upright when I'm editing it (see image), but this makes the mesh in object mode not curve downward along the curve to look like a hair. The mesh follows the curve perfectly if set to -Y , but then I have to work with my view turned on the side. Its a b

I'm trying to follow this tutorial [this video] , wich lets you edit the hair flat and then snap it to a curve with a curve modifier but I can't get the hairstrand or anything to snap to the location of the curve as he does in the tutorial, I have to place it where the curve is wich kind of defeats the purpose of making edits on the side if i place my object to the side of the character and use the curve modifier it flies way off where the curve is, even if I apply transformations and have the origins near the end of each object
