Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Recommended by 4 people across 5 different months, 2020 to 2023.

What it is

A 34-minute Blender tutorial by CGDive on posing a character rigged with Rigify. It tours the generated rig's controls (arms, legs, torso, head, shoulders, tail, tweak bones), explains FK versus IK, and finishes by posing the character.

They allow you to deform your character with a lot of freedom. This can be useful for cartoony animation... although if you don't go too extreme with them, you could possibly use them to create realistic motion. I have a video where I explain a bit about them: [this video]

Rigify's generated rig comes with FK and IK control bones. The meta rig is just used to align everything in its place. The FK (green) and IK controls (red) work independently from each other. Default is IK. In the N -panel there are buttons in the Rig Main Properties section. There, you can switch between IK and FK with the IK-FK ("bone name") slider (0=IK, 1=FK). Or use the snap buttons IK->FK ("bone name") and FK->IK ("bone name") to copy the pose and sync them. As others have already explained, you're looking for the FK controls. Here it is in video format if you prefer :) [this video]

In rigify the green controls are FK controls and the red ones are IK. if you press 'N' to open the rigify control side panel you can toggle between them using the FK>IK switches . I suggest you watch this YT video [this video] from CGDIVE which explains how to use them.

Thank you so much for this! I also found a really helpful video that explains the whole IK and FK controls situation very well for anybody else confused: [this video]
